Descriptive Writing

Over the last few weeks the Mighty Monsters have been working on their descriptive writing. We have been learning how to use descriptive language to help us show, not tell, what the writer is writing about. We have spent some time coming up with describing words for our buddy Shrek. We have discovered he is a disgusting ogre who likes to brush his teeth with slugs, yuk!

Flagpole team challenge

We were learning how to use a Habit of mind; Working with others. There was a little difficulty as some got on well and others needed mediation. Working in groups is not as easy as one thinks. In the end everyone finished the challenge happy and we all learned that we can resolve our issues through communication and compromise.

Each group was given eight sheets of paper, a pair of scissors and a roll of cellotape. The only instruction we received were to get into groups and create a flagpole that would stand un-assisted. The eventual winners were Salena, Compton, Tamehana, Ngahina and Carlos. Their flagpole was the only one that stood. Awesome job guys!

Monsters go swimming

This term we are learning how to swim. We have made a video to help us with our writing. Enjoy!

Back to School

Week one is over, what a ride! We did so many fun activities like playing games, creating art, went swimming, hung out with Hettie and much more. We have been focusing on getting to know each other and branding. Since Mr. O'Connor used to work at a movie theater we decided it was a good idea to name our class after a movie we like; Monsters Inc. We came up with our name (Mighty Monsters), our secret handshake and our class motto. We then got to show case to the whole school what the Mighty Monsters were about.

Now bring on week two, the best is yet to come!
